The GeneQuant pro RNA/DNA Calculator is a "mini" spectrophotometer designed to meet the needs of molecular biologists making discrete nucleic acid (DNA, RNA and oligonucleotide primer), protein and bacterial cell culture measurements in genetic and proteome analysis, biotechnology laboratories and drug discovery research. Sample volumes as low as 3µl can be accommodated with the disposable capillary system. The instrument can be checked using traceable filters to prove that it is working to specification, now so important in the modern laboratory environment for reasons of good laboratory practice.

The large, easy to read and informative display enables all relevant results to be viewed at once. For a nucleic acid sample this means 230, 260, 280 and 320 nm absorbances, A260/A230 and A260/A280 ratios and sample concentration; sample dilution and cell pathlength are accounted for automatically. A survey spectral scan can be obtained, if required, to view the integrity of the sample; this is particularly useful for RNA because chemicals used in the extraction process absorb strongly at 230nm and therefore adversely affect the A260/A230 ratio. are obtained almost instantly using stored or entered parameters that are applied to the absorbance values obtained.
